A Special Message from MFA President John Foster

I would like to extend my personal invitation to new members and first-time attendees to meet the current Officers and Board of Governors of MFA at the New Members and Guest Reception in the MFA Hospitality Suite prior to the Friday evening Social. The Annual Meeting provides an excellent opportunity for you as new members to learn more about MFA and get to know others in the forest community.

For our “veterans,” I encourage you to invite a nonmember to join you at this year’s meeting! (Copy your registration form before you fill it in and give it to a friend!) This year’s theme, “Can Money Really Grow on Trees?”, should be of interest to us all. The Annual Meeting sessions guarantee new knowledge, insights and thought-provoking discussions as we learn more about our forest resources.

We have invited our Shore neighbors, the Delaware Forests Association, to attend the annual meeting as it’s in their back yard. We will have the State Foresters of both Maryland and Delaware give us State of the Forests reports. A report on forest issues from a national perspective will also be given.

I would also like you to consider sponsoring a College Student Scholarship to the Annual Meeting to help mentor the next generation of forest professionals! This is an outreach of MFA that successfully exposes our youth to aspects of forestry not available in a classroom. By sponsoring a College Student to the MFA Annual Meeting you are helping to ensure the future of forestry in Maryland. Whether they become landowners, foresters, loggers, business owners, teachers, or policy makers, the future of our forest resources will one day be in their hands.

There will be plenty of time for networking, visiting with friends, viewing educational exhibits and Silent Auction items to bid on. All the details are contained in the following pages. Save the date! Make your reservations! Kit and I look forward to seeing you in November on the Eastern Shore at Ocean City!

~John Foster, MFA President

Attention College Students
Always more places to go than money to get there? Let MFA offer to help!

In 2005 we instituted a special $80 Student Rate for college students, and solicited our members to become College Student Scholarship sponsors. This was a great success with seven college students attending on scholarships.

MFA wants to be sure that if you want to come and learn more about Maryland's forests, resources and industry, that nothing stands in your way!

Become a Meeting Sponsor ~Support the Pro-Forestry Message

No matter what sector of the forest community you are in, the future of our forest resources affects and is affected by us all.

Designed to cover MFA's broad spectrum of members, forest landowners, foresters, recreationists, loggers, and mill owners, the Annual Meeting guarantees thought-provoking discussions and new insights. Your participation as an sponsor will help to make this meeting a success!

There are three ways that you can choose from to help MFA spread the "good news" about forestry and the forest products industry in Maryland: as an financial sponsor, exhibitor, and/or silent auction donor.

We are looking for sponsors who share our vision and are willing to financially ensure the success of this event. In addition to speakers' fees and expenses, each year hotels charge more for the incidentals that are necessary for a successful meeting. We are asking individuals, organizations, agencies, and businesses within Maryland's forest community, to consider becoming a 2007 Meeting Sponsor. Help us make this year's annual meeting the best one yet!

Step up and show your support! Take a moment and consider the promotional advantages you will gain and the tangible benefits available for being a sponsor of MFA's Annual Meeting. Contact the MFA office at mdforests@hereintown.net to pledge your support!
